Detail from Aggregate #20
Acrylic and sand on canvas, 101 x 101 cm, 2020
The Aggregate series of paintings are essentially ambiguous artworks that also allow for an exploration of the materiality of sand.
The sand was collected from the beach near my studio at Point Heathcote (Goolugatup) and I have experimented with the medium, compositions that have references to site-related spaces and current socio-political issues. In the above image the painting lies below the layers of sand which affect the transmission and reflectivity of light.
